Sodium methyl cocoyl taurate
Sodium methyl cocoyl taurate is an anionic surfactant made by reacting coconut fatty acids (or their acid chlorides) with N-methyltaurine, a taurine derivative, and neutralizing with sodium hydroxide. It is used in sulfate-free shampoos, facial cleansers and body washes and works across a wide pH range. Brands buy it as a roughly 25 to 30% aqueous solution or as a high-active powder.
Suppliers sell different products under the same name. Specify the one you need.
Aqueous solution for washes and shampoos, often low-salt.
Dry form for powdered cleansers and solid bars.
Coconut-derived grades approved for COSMOS or similar standards.
Sodium methyl lauroyl taurate and sodium methyl oleoyl taurate, separate INCI names with different chain profiles.
Compare each result with your own specification when the lot arrives.
Store liquid taurate closed at moderate temperature, away from freezing, and keep powder sealed and dry. Shelf life follows the supplier's specification, with a retest of active matter, pH and micro for older liquid stock.
Record active matter, pH and salt for each lot, since low-salt and standard grades thicken differently with the same salt addition. Rotate FIFO.

Health Canada's Natural Health Products Ingredients Database lists sodium methyl cocoyl taurate (CAS 12765-39-8) with the non-medicinal purpose cleansing surfactant.

Suppliers are in alphabetical order and none pays to appear. Each claim is checked against the supplier’s own website on the date shown. Ask for the specification sheet and a recent COA before you order, and confirm details with the supplier.
Common forms include liquid (about 25 to 30% active), powder (about 90% or more active), natural-standard grades and related taurates. Ask each supplier for the specification sheet of the exact grade they quote.
Expect active matter, free fatty acid and N-methyltaurine, sodium chloride, pH and microbiology and preservative, each with its method, specification and result for that lot.
