Baobab
Baobab is Adansonia digitata, a large tree of the African savanna whose hard-shelled fruit dries naturally on the branch. Inside, the seeds sit in a dry, chalky pulp, which is separated from the seeds and fibers by cracking and sieving, then milled and sieved to a powder with no added water or heat. Food buyers use the fruit pulp powder, and cosmetic buyers use the oil pressed from the seeds.
Suppliers sell different products under the same name. Specify the one you need.
Dry pulp separated from seeds and fibers and sieved to a fine powder, sold by mesh size.
Pulp powder from certified organic wild collection, often with fair trade or traceability documentation.
Cold-pressed seed oil used in cosmetics, sold crude or refined.
Compare each result with your own specification when the lot arrives.
Keep pulp powder sealed in lined bags or drums in a cool, dry place; it absorbs moisture and cakes quickly once opened. Vitamin C falls with heat and time. Shelf life or a retest date comes from the supplier's specification.
Vitamin C, fiber and color vary with region and harvest, so record origin and key results for each lot. Keep wild-collection and traceability documents with the lot and rotate stock FEFO.
